OUR PURPOSE

LOVE   -   GROW  -  SEND

LOVE
We LOVE GOD because He loved us first. Jesus calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love the people around us.
We LOVE PEOPLE as He has loved us. That means making room for people, caring for them, and treating every person with the dignity God gives them.

GROW
We help people GROW into the people God has called them to be.
We GROW because Jesus calls us to follow Him and help others follow Him too. We want to keep learning, changing and becoming more like Jesus.

SEND
We SEND people into their families, workplaces and communities because Jesus told us to GO.
We SEND people and resources wherever God opens a door, both here in Australia and around the world.

OUR VALUES

WORD & SPIRIT
We are committed to both WORD & SPIRIT.
We don't see a choice between knowing God's Word and experiencing the Holy Spirit. We need both. We want to meet Jesus in Scripture, let His Word shape the way we live, and make room for the Holy Spirit to work among us through His gifts and fruit.
The Bible is central to who we are. We believe God's Word speaks to the deepest places in our lives and has the power to change us.

COME & SEE Evangelism
Jesus cares about people who are far from God, and we want to care about them too.
We want people to have the chance to meet Jesus for themselves. Sometimes that happens in a single moment. Often it happens over time, through friendship, conversation, prayer and simply doing life together.
We have programs and ministries, but they are never the point. People are the point. We want everything we do to help people take a step towards Jesus.
We pray because ultimately it is God who changes hearts, and we ask the Holy Spirit to help us know what to say and how to love people well.
Philip said to Nathanael, “Come and see.”
The woman at the well went back to her community and said, “Come and see.”
We want to do the same.

VALUE ALL PEOPLE
Love, acceptance and forgiveness have been at the heart of C3 Burwood from the beginning.
We believe every person matters to God, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or background. So every person matters to us too.
The Bible describes the church as the Body of Christ, with every part playing an important role. That's why we want to make room for people of every age and background, and why we want every generation to have a place to belong, grow and serve.

DEVELOP & SEND PEOPLE
We believe every person has a part to play in God's mission.
Jesus spent time with His disciples. He taught them, challenged them, encouraged them and eventually sent them out. We want to do the same.
We want to help people discover the gifts God has given them and find where they can use them. That might be serving in the church, loving people in the workplace, helping in the local community, or going somewhere new to start a church or share the gospel.
Being sent doesn't always mean going somewhere far away. Sometimes it simply means being faithful where God has already placed you.

GENEROSITY
God loved the world so much that He gave. We believe generosity is part of what it means to follow Him.
Generosity isn't just about money, and it isn't something we do once in a while. We want to be generous with our time, our attention, our possessions, our gifts and our money.
We want the way we live and give to reflect the generous heart of God.

DYNAMIC
The message of Jesus doesn't change, but the way we share that message can.
The world around us is constantly changing, and we want to be willing to change with it. We want to speak in a way people understand, use the gifts and creativity God has given us, and find new ways to reach people who may never walk into a church.
We write new songs. We try new things. We don't want to be afraid of change simply because something is unfamiliar.
We love the time and place God has put us in, and we want to make the most of it.

TEAMS
We believe church is better when we do it together.
Teams give people the chance to use their gifts, serve others and build friendships along the way. There is something special about seeing different people, with different gifts and personalities, working together for Jesus.
God has given every person something to contribute. We want everyone to have the opportunity to be part of what He is doing.
Jesus Himself gathered people around Him and taught them to serve together. We want to follow His example

LOVE CHURCH
We love the local church.
The church isn't a building or a Sunday service. It's a community of people who belong to Jesus and to one another. Jesus loves His church, and we want to love it too.
We believe church is a place where people can meet with Jesus, worship together, hear God's Word, find friendship, grow in faith and discover how God can partner with Him.
Loving the church means more than saying we love it. It means showing up, serving, giving, forgiving, encouraging and making room for other people. It means choosing to do things that help the people around us flourish, even when it costs us something.

UNITY
Jesus prayed that His church would be ONE, just as He and the Father are one. Unity matters to Jesus, so it matters to us.
We know unity isn't always easy. We won't always agree, and we won't always get things right. But we believe Jesus calls us to pursue peace, to forgive one another and to stay committed to each other.
We won't always get this right, but it's what we're aiming for.

TRANSPARENCY
Jesus said that our yes should mean yes, and our no should mean no. He calls us to be people who are honest and don't hide behind appearances.
We want to live that way as a church too. So we're open about the way we make decisions, manage money and plan what we do. We report back to the church because we're not building something that belongs to a few people. We're all part of it.
We won't pretend we're perfect, but we do want to be honest.
